Students from engineering courses in the country are preparing to participate in the 26th Baja SAE BRASIL Competition – National Stage, which takes place between March 11th to 15th, at the São José dos Campos Technological Park (SP). This year, the Unicamp Baja SAE team, which represents the State University of Campinas, has the support of TMD Friction, a global leader in friction materials technology, owner of the Cobreq brand.
For the competition, the Unicamp Baja SAE team made some changes to the off road car, such as the adoption of items for the adjustable steering column, changes in the electronics and a new design for the braking system with the adoption of brake pads produced by Cobreq with organic material. “The changes aim to ensure better performance, performance, safety and comfort. The tests carried out with the prototype have already shown positive results and our expectation is to be among the best in the competition ”, comments Carolina Helena Naveira, captain of the team.
According to the engineering manager of TMD, Douglas Klumpp, support for the student team is a way to contribute to the search for innovation, in addition to motivating students to put into practice the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom. “It is gratifying to support a project that aims to develop and train students for the professional future”, he adds.
About 1,000 students from 63 higher education institutions participate in the national stage. In addition to designing and building off-road cars, under the guidance of teachers, students are responsible for organizing and managing teams, from the technical and financial management of projects. The competition in São José dos Campos will qualify the three universities that obtain the best scores in the overall sum of the tests to represent Brazil in the world competition Baja SAE Illinois, promoted by SAE International in the United States, from June 3 to 6.
